- Description
- The Department of the Interior National Park Service has a requirement for the construction of a bike trail. The Government envisions a sole source SBA 8(a) award. Scope: This project is for the rehabilitation of two existing trail segments located in Cape Cod National Seashore in Truro, Massachusetts. The first segment of trail is 1.9 miles (Head of the Meadow Trail) of asphalt bike trail between High Head Road and Head of the Meadow Road. The second segment is 0.8 miles (Old King's Highway) of hardened road between Head of the Meadow Road and Coast Guard Road. Each trail segment serves as the connection to the ocean and surrounding attractions. Head of the Meadow Trail Segment: The project work entails the rehabilitation of an existing asphalt trail and requires pavement pulverizing, grading, and widening the existing trail (generally 6' to 8' wide) to a standard 10 foot width for a multi-use trail. The work includes new pavement overlay the length of widened trail. The work will include several new paved pedestrian pull-offs, rest areas with benches, pavement striping and markings for mileage, a drainage culvert and general alignment adjustments to widen and straighten sharp/dangerous curves. Replacement of bollards, split rail fencing, and signage are a part of the work. Old King's Highway Trail Segment: The project work entails improvements to the trail segment of Old King's Highway, which is currently used as a sand/fire road. This portion of the work includes moderate grading for drainage, trail widening and stabilization of the route surface with a hardened treatment suitable for bicycle use. The existing trail segment (generally 6' to 8' wide) will be widened to 8 foot width. The work includes signage, shoulder stabilization, and new drainage. All proposed work will not permanently impact cultural and natural resources. Order of magnitude $2 to $2.5 Million.
