Description
Purchase Description Technical Evaluation The Integrative Neuroscience Branch conducts research at the cellular, molecular, and systems levels to identify the neural substrates upon which drugs of abuse act to produce long-term alterations in behavior and brain function. The Neuronal Networks Section (NNS) contributes to this research by delineating the afferent inputs, efferent targets, physiological characteristics, and behavioral functions of ventral tegmental area and dorsal raphe neurons. In order to accomplish this, they utilize classical tract tracing techniques, radioactive and nonradioactive in situ hybridization, ex vivo electrophysiological recordings, in vivo single-unit electrophysiological recordings, optogenetics, pharmacogenetics, and behavioral assays. NNS needs an optogenetically synchronized microscope system to synchronize optogenetic stimulation with deep brain calcium imaging of freely-moving animals like rats and mice. They have targets at -3.5 and -4.4 from the top of the skull and are working primarily with mice. The GCaMP6 + NpHR3.0 microscope version is needed for its compatibility with other red-shifted opsins like Chrimson and Breaches. See details in Purchase Description attached.
