Description
The National Institute for Occupation Safety and Health (NIOSH) located at 4676 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio has a requirement for the following instrument: Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope. The following measurement capabilities are needed to advance greatly enhance the lnstitute's microscopy capabilities and research programs at NIOSH/DART/CEMB: High resolution field emission SEM purchase which include 4option years for service maintenance. We are seeking a FESEM system that meets the specifications (i.e., detection system and low-vacuum mode) and performance (i.e., resolution at low-voltage) requirements. Along with a new X-ray spectrometer, the new instrument required capabilities are:1) 1 nm resolution at 1 kV; 2) low-vacuum mode; 3) low voltage mode (beam deceleration); 4) chamber size no less than 80mm*80mm*60mm 5) high tilt angle stage (up to 90 degrees); 6) a combination of in-lens detectors for optimal contrast of images; 7) retractable backscatter detector (BS) and STEM detector; 8) navigation camera for quick sample loading and location search; 9) compatible to serial block-face imaging devices and software for 3D reconstruction; 10) ports available for dual EDS detectors and additional analytical spectrometers if future updates are needed. The requirements are needed for the existing and future research of 1) high resolution imaging of nanomaterials; 2) imaging easycharging aerosol particles on filters; 3) beam sensitive biological materials; 4) more space to fit large samples; 5) tomography and 3DSEM applications; 6) improved contrast of images; 7) screening of TEM samples especially tissue samples; 8) efficient sample loading and correlative studies; 9) 3D reconstruction of thin sections of biological samples; 10) fast X-ray mapping and chemical analysis. The equipment will be installed in the NIOSH Alice Hamilton Laboratory at 5555 Ridge Avenue in Cincinnati OH 45213.
