- Description
- The following questions were asked: Question #1) For all four Shear Stringers 5763LP09-1, 2, 3 & 4, can the.88 Leg have the same 9.74 radius as the main section, keeping the same 8.23 width? A- The.88 leg should be flat, as we use that flatness to engage a shim during assembly to assure proper placement. Question #2) For all four Shear Stringers 5763LP09-1, 2, 3 & 4, and Connector Plate Doubler 5763LP40, can the parts be drilled or punched while flat, then rolled, resulting in slight hole deformation. A- The curve is sufficiently large that the resulting hole/feature deformation will not impact function. Yes, parts may be drilled/punched as needed to meet the drawing requirements while flat, as long as the position (principally the radial positioning) is accurate after rolling. Longitudinal position should be unaffected by that process. Question #3) For the Longeron 5763LP05-A&B, can the 8.7 radius legs be “bump bent”? The radius would be mimicked by bump bends / kinks. Forming these as per drawing would require a disposable dieset worth 3 to $4000.00. A- Due to the existing structure to which these parts attach, we need a continuous curve contact to assure design strength is achieved after assembly. In this case, we need a smooth bend, please.
