- Description
- Contracting Office Address Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division, 100 Bureau Drive, Building 301, Room B129, Mail Stop 1640, Gaithersburg, MD, 20899-1640 Background: The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seeks information on commercial vendors that are capable of providing high power lasers for the Quantum Measurement Division (QMD) in the Physical Measurements Laboratory (PML). These lasers will be used in building a new capability for studying Rydberg interactions in ultra-cold strontium atoms for the purposes creating enhanced interactions for improved metrology. After market research results are obtained and analyzed, minimum requirements specifications for the preventative maintenance service contract will be established. NIST may use these established specifications in conducting a competitive procurement and subsequently award a Purchase Order in the future. If a minimum of two (2) qualified small businesses are identified during market research stage, then any resulting competitive procurement may be considered for a small business set-aside. Requirements: NIST is seeking responses from all responsible sources, including large, foreign, and small businesses. Small businesses are defined under the associated NAICS code for this effort, 334516, as those domestic sources with 1,000 employees or less. Please include your company's size classification and socio-economic status in any response to this notice. Through this notice, NIST is also seeking market information to determine whether to conduct a single competitive procurement for both the continuously tunable laser and wavelength meter or to solicit them as two separate compatible procurements. As a result, even if only able to offer one of the two required products, responsible sources are still encouraged to respond by the notice due date with the requested information. Product Requirements: One (1) High power, 317nm laser system that meets or exceeds the following minimum specifications: 1.The design wavelength shall be centered 317nm with a +/- 2nm tuning range 2.The laser shall be based on a diode laser. The diode laser can be amplified and subsequently frequency doubled. 3.Shall have a linewidth of ˂ 300 kHz. 4.Shall provide at least 300 mW of output power 5.Shall be continuous-wave (CW) 6.Shall have a frequency stability:<400 MHz/K 7.Must tune at least 10 Ghz without a mode-hop. 8.To ensure longterm stability the second harmonic generation (FHG)cavity shall have a monolithic design with auto-aligment of the first SHG beam into the FHG cavity 9.The contractor shall provide the following hardware: a.All electronics required to operate the laser system including current and temperature controllers, piezo drivers and associated cables. If software is required to operate the laser then that must also be provided. 10. The Contractor will be responsible for providing training and installation. One (1) High power, 461nm laser system that meets or exceeds the following minimum specifications: 1.The design wavelength shall be centered 461nm with a +/- 2nm tuning range 2.The laser shall be based on a diode laser. The diode laser can be amplified and subsequently frequency doubled. 3.Shall have a linewidth of ˂ 100 kHz. 4.Shall provide at least 800 mW of output power 5.Shall be continuous-wave (CW) 6.Shall have a frequency stavility:<200 MHz/K 7.Must tune at least 10 Ghz without a mode-hop. 8.To ensure longterm stability the second harmonic generation (SHG)cavity shall have a a monolithic design with auto-aligment of the fundamental beam into the doubling cavity 9.The contractor shall provide the following hardware: a.All electronics required to operate the laser system including current and temperature controllers, piezo drivers and associated cables. If software is required to operate the laser then that must also be provided. 10. The Contractor will be responsible for providing training and installation. Instruction to Responders: Companies that are capable of providing the 317nm laser and/or the 461nm laser are requested to email a detailed report describing their abilities to tracy.bisson@nist.gov no later than the response date for this sources sought notice. The report should include achievable specifications and any other information relevant to your product or capabilities. Also, the following information is requested to be provided as part of the response to this sources sought notice: 1. Name of the company(s) that offer the required supply. In addition, provide a point of contact for the company(s). 2. Indication of number of days, after receipt of order that is typical for delivery. 3. Interested vendors shall address their capability of providing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts. 4. Any other relevant information that is not listed above which the Government should consider in developing its minimum specifications and finalizing its market research.
