Description
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS), LLC under contract no. DE-AC52-07NA27344 (Contract 44) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking an initial set of partners to collaborate on research & technology development in advanced manufacturing. The R&D collaborations will utilize a newly constructed Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory (AML) designed for the express purpose of facilitating collaborative research and development with industry. This "Expression of Interest" is intended to identify a set of candidate companies for consideration as initial partners in this exciting new initiative. LLNL plans to conduct collaborative research & development at the new AML in the areas of design, materials, processes, applications, and qualification/certification. These areas were selected based on the needs, capabilities and ongoing work at LLNL as well as what is perceived to have the greatest mutual benefit to industry. More information about these R&D areas and the Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory itself can be found at: https://engineering.llnl.gov/content/assets/docs/aml_brochureweb.pdf Please complete the information requested below about your company and the nature of the collaboration you are interested in pursuing with LLNL. This Expression of Interest will be reviewed by LLNL for the purpose of selecting potential initial partners. Selection will be based on mutual LLNL/industry benefit and compatibility of objectives in light of the partnership selection criteria listed below. Once selections have been made, further information will be requested to facilitate discussions leading to a proposed collaboration agreement. COMPANY INFORMATION Company Name: Company Description: Location of U.S. Headquarters: Is your company foreign (non-U.S.) owned or controlled? Yes No Primary Company Contact: Name: Company/Division: Title: Address: Phone number: Email address: INFORMATION ABOUT POTENTIAL R&D COLLABORATION Below are a set of questions that will help us determine the nature of the collaborations you hope to achieve. The answers are non-binding, and expected to be at a summary level. Please provide enough detail for LLNL to determine if the partnership will be mutually beneficial to all parties. Your responses must be provided on a non-confidential basis and LLNL will be under no restrictions with respect to any information that you disclose. Please do not disclose any proprietary information about your company or its products, processes or plans. If this expression of interest or further discussions necessitate confidential discussions, a nondisclosure agreement will be put into place. Indicate all technical areas of interest Design Materials Processes Applications Qualification / Certification Vision Briefly describe your vision for the proposed R&D collaboration. Include in the description the technical challenge you propose to address, what advancements you hope to achieve, and the potential benefits to your company and to LLNL. Partner Resources What resources do you expect to bring to the R&D collaboration? Include such things as technical staff effort, equipment, material, other partners, technology, and know-how. LLNL Resources Describe your resource expectations from LLNL. For example, would you like to have your employee(s) present and doing collaborative work at the AML and for how much time? Do you need dedicated space at the facility? What are your expectations of work to be performed by LLNL technical staff as part of this collaboration? Proprietary Work LLNL anticipates working with partners who desire to keep their proprietary work secure, and also with those who are open to sharing what they are doing with others. The AML is designed to accommodate both. For planning and compatibility purposes, please indicate your expectations regarding proprietary work performed at the AML. SELECTION PROCESS Partnership Selection Criteria LLNL will select potential partners based on the criteria below. Mutual benefit to LLNL and partner Compatibility between LLNL and partner objectives Complementarity of strengths of LLNL and partner organization Availability of resources to support the collaboration Contribution of partner organization to the R&D effort Compatibility with other LLNL collaborations If selected, the partner will be asked to complete a more detailed information request in a subsequent proposal at a later date (to be determined). Dates and notification An initial set of potential partners will be identified for a more detailed discussion about the terms of the partnership. Based on the discussion, and draft agreements, final selections will be made for a founding set of collaborations. In addition, LLNL is planning an "AML Industry Collaboration Workshop" at LLNL to help facilitate discussion with potential partners, between partners, and to provide more detail on the work and strategy of the advance manufacturing programs at LLNL. The workshop will be held in the first few months of 2018 and all those who have expressed interest will be notified directly. Those who have not formally expressed interest will also be welcome to attend. Attendance is not required nor is it considered an advantage for selection. It is understood some potential partners will want to maintain their anonymity. LLNL hopes to complete this process so collaborations can begin in the late spring or early summer of 2018. Written Expression of Interest responses should be submitted within ninety (90) days from the date this announcement is published and be adressed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Attn: Patrick Dempsey P.O.
