Description
This notice is a Request for Information (RFI). The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is requesting information on interested vendors for the acquisition of a second generation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) transponders to support the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) program. These transponders will be piloted at two initial sites in Laredo and Brownsville, Texas. Upon successful deployment within these two sites, CBP intends to begin deployment of these second generation transponders throughout the country. This technology must interface with application software developed by the CBP Passenger Systems Program Office and operate seamlessly with legacy equipment and specifications. Commercial standards shall be used wherever practicable and must be compatible with existing CBP hardware, firmware and software. RFID Transponders must interface with equipment and technology currently in use at Northern and Southern Border Stations/Points of Entry. To accomplish this, CBP intends to make industry a partner in all facets of the acquisition process, specifically by providing existing market capabilities, including strengths and weaknesses for the acquisition of this commodity. Responses to this RFI will allow the CBP team to incorporate industry input into overall acquisition plan for improvements in CBP's ECS. Note: RFI responses will NOT be shared with other industry suppliers and will solely be used as part of the contract planning process.
