- STATEMENT OF WORK (SOW) as of 12/05/2012 Contract Number: Task Order Number: IFCAP Tracking Number: Follow-on to Contract and Task Order Number: 1. Contracting Officer s Representative (COR) Name: Shaun Carabajal Section: Nursing Services Address: 1501 San Pedro SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108-5138 Phone Number: 505-265-1711 ext. 4911 Fax Number: 505-256-5473 E-Mail Address: Shaun.Carabajal@va.gov 2. Contract Title. (5) RoWalker 400, 180kg/400lbs, RoWalker Custom Basket, O2 Tank Holder RoWalker, and IV Pole RoWalker 3. Background. RoWalker holds all equipment in a single self-contained, stable IV pole walker. Frequent ambulation is safe and simple with all lines and devices remaining connected and only one nurse required to assist your patient. RoWalker carries and manages: Two Oxygen tanks (for oxygen delivery and suction if needed) Multiple IV fluids Multiple IV fluid delivery systems Oxygen saturation monitor EKG monitor Chest tube collection canisters Urinary catheter bag Additional drainage collection devices for various specialties 4. Scope. This The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) are lacking the appropriate ambulation devices for our patients. Due the acuity level of the ICU patient, there are additional lines and tubes that need to be managed during ambulation. A traditional walker doesn t provide the amount of space necessary to attach monitors, chest tubes, Foley catheters, IV fluids, oxygen canister, etc. The SICU recovers open heart surgery patients. This patient is ambulated <24 hours after surgery. In the MICU, we are currently working on our wake up and breath protocol and initiating early ambulation in our intubated patients. These interventions are part of a national initiative promoted by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) classified as the ABCDE protocol: A = awakening trials for ventilated patients B = spontaneous breathing trials C = Coordination between respiratory therapy and the registered nurse D = standardized delirium assessment E = early mobilization Since implementation, the MICU has successfully decreased our number of ventilator days. In the MICU, the RNs have no equipment other than the traditional walker for assistance. It is inefficient and puts the patient and staff at risk for injury. The SICU has utilized grocery carts for many years, while an inventive solution the carts are not medical grade and are difficult to clean between patients. 5. Specific Tasks.
