This request is to purchase aluminum instrument sterilization trays and sterilization container ID labels for SPS. Background: This request is to purchase aluminum instrument sterilization trays and ID labels for the sterilization containers used in the Manhattan Sterile Processing Service. Surgical instrument sets are placed in rigid containers to: categorize and group instruments by specialties and for ease of use during surgeries; provide the greatest microbial barrier of protection for surgical instruments; and serve as the best protective barrier for excess handling as opposed to sets that are wrapped in sterilization wrappers. Large groups of instruments make up a 'set' that needs to be placed in a rigid container for sterilization. Sets are of various sizes and so are the containers. The containers we use are the Steriset Sterilization containers. The current procurement is for sterilization trays that are designed to fit in the various sizes of the Steriset sterilization containers. The trays help keep the instruments organized and protected from damage during the sterilization process. It is important that the trays be as requested in the requirements section below because using another tray inside the sterilization container has the potential to impact steam permeability and prevent the proper and complete sterilization of the instruments contained in the tray. Based on the design of the Steriset container (i.e., the lid being flush with the base), using another tray may present challenges with aseptic removal of the contents (e.g., instruments). The container ID labels help to readily identify the trays and keep them grouped by specialties for ease of use during surgeries.
