Description
PROJECT PURPOSE: Sections of the existing boundary fence along the southern boundary of the park (Figure 1) needs to be replaced since it has deteriorated due to age, experiences reoccurring damage and failure due to constant pressure from livestock, and is not an effective fence design to prevent livestock entry into the park or allow safe wildlife passage in and out of the park. The fence to be installed is a fixed knot woven wire fence design that is more durable and effective at reducing livestock access and also allows for safe wildlife passage. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project consists of the installation of 0.7 miles (3718 feet) of fixed knot woven wire fence in MEVE, Colorado. The fence will be installed on Big Mesa and will run from Whites Canyon on the west to Weaver Canyon on the east (Figure 1). Between the h-braces, t-posts and u-channel posts will be used to support the fence. One vehicle gate will be installed in the location where it currently exists. The project also includes the removal of 0.7 miles of existing wire strand fence in the same locations. Some areas along this fence section will require vegetation removal to remove the old fence and install the new fence. Due to the presence of livestock along this section of boundary fence, the removal of the existing fence and the installation of the new fence must be done in a manner to prevent livestock entry into the park while the work is completed. Equipment staging areas and vehicle routes along the fence will be rehabilitated by seeding by the contractor. All fence supplies, equipment, tools and labor to remove the existing fence and install the new fence will be provided and delivered by the contractor.
