Description
The Northern Region of the Forest Service anticipates awarding a contract for reclamation work at Beal Mountain Mine on the Butte-Jefferson Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Work includes, but is not limited to, producing approximately 14,000 cubic yards of fill material from an on-site borrow source, hauling and placement of fill material at the Beal Barren Pond, excavation of pipe corridors and spent ore from a portion of the Beal Leach Pad in order remove, plug, or rework water treatment pipelines, excavation and construction of French drains and connection to existing drain systems, placement of a new top cover system on the disturbed portion of the Beal Leach Pad, and removal of fences, pipes, and miscellaneous debris. This work requires handling mine waste, which may contain metals and other chemicals that are listed as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) 42 U.S.C. 9601 and 9602. The CONTRACTOR and all SUBCONTRACTORS shall provide written documentation that all onsite personnel engaged in the Work have received the Occupational Safety and Health Administration 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Training required under 29 CFR 1910.120. The project is located on the Beal Mountain Mine, a former open pit gold mine. The Mine is located approximately 16 miles west southwest of Butte, Montana, near the headwaters of German Gulch Creek. The Government estimates the magnitude of this project to be between $100,000 and $250,000.
