Sign Language Interpretive Services VA118A-17-Q-0099 Sign Language Interpretive Services and VRI The Austin Information Technology Center (AITC) requires sign language interpreter services and video remote interpreter (VRI) services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (HOH) employees on a Labor Hour basis. The need is for simultaneous interpretation from English to American Sign Language (ASL), and from ASL to Spoken English, whether on site or remotely. These services will allow Deaf/HOH employees to have full access to the information and resources needed to perform the functions of their jobs, and participate in meetings, trainings, and special events. The Department of Veteran Affairs has a long history in supporting the work needs of its employees with various stages of hearing loss. While these actions were voluntary at the time they are now mandated by the Employees with Disabilities Act. The AITC has in the past utilized the services of sign language interpreters to support these same needs and it will continue so that employees who use American Sign Language can perform their work without any possible limits.
