Description
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), a National Laboratory and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), operated by Princeton University under contract to the United States Department of Energy, wishes to obtain expression of interest from qualified and experienced sources capable of fabricating up to 12 copper conductor (rectangular section with circular coolant passage) resistive solenoid coils for the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX) Upgrade Project. The NSTX is the world's highest performance Spherical Tokamak (ST) research facility and is the centerpiece of the U.S. ST research program. Since starting operation in 1999, NSTX has established the attractiveness of the low-aspect-ratio tokamak ST concept characterized by strong intrinsic plasma shaping and enhanced stabilizing magnetic field line curvature. If you believe your firm is capable of fabricating the required coils, and is interested in this potential procurement, you are requested to submit the following information via email to the PPPL point of contact for this notice: 1. Brief Description of Company - A brief description of your firm's history and organization and a description of their facilities, products, services, and customers. 2. Capabilities and Qualifications Information - Statement addressing your firm's capabilities and qualifications to include: a)Experience with insulating and forming of primed copper conductors of cross sectional areas up to ¾ inches square, wound on steel mandrels. Mandrel diameters range in sizes from between 20" to 48" and range in heights from 6" to 20". Coil solenoids will contain 2 to 4 layers of insulated conductors and up to 65 total turns. The conductor will be insulated with co-wound glass (S-2)/Kapton tape with the assembly wound and covered with glass tape ground insulation. The final wound assembly will be vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) with a highly exothermic epoxy. The selected impregnation system to be used is CTD-425 "Cyanate Ester epoxy." b)Facilities and abilities to meet the following needs with respect to fabrication of coils noted above, including; relevant experiences, shop cleanliness, available equipment, (winding lines, taping machines, autoclaves, ovens, etc.), availability of sufficient experienced staff, QC program (which includes MIT, tracking method and certifications), testing program and testing equipment. The delivery of the coils will be in within 9 months after receipt of order. 3. Past Performance Information - A list of references for components closely matching these coils scope to include: a)The location and address of the completed projects. b)The client, the client's Project Manager's name, current telephone number and email address. c)The monetary value of the completed project. d)Brief project description. This SOURCES SOUGHT notice is for informational and planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a solicitation or as an obligation or commitment by PPPL. This notice is intended strictly for market research. This is NOT a solicitation for proposals, proposal abstracts, or quotations. No solicitation exists at this time. The purpose of this notice is to obtain information regarding the availability and capacity of qualified sources that are capable of fabricating the required coils. Please be advised that PPPL will not reimburse parties for any costs incurred in responding to this request. Expressions of interest are due to the PPPL Procurement Specialist, Chi Man Cheung by 4:00 PM Eastern, February 14, 2017. Should PPPL proceed with issuance of a Request for Proposal (RFP) for this requirement, all qualified and capable parties responding to this notice will be notified of RFP availability. Questions pertaining to these may be directed to Chi Man Cheung at (609) 243-3092, fax (609) 243-2021, and by email to ccheung@pppl.gov.
