- Description
- The Office of Naval Research (Code 322MS) has provided the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Physics Department with several autonomous underwater gliders, originally developed by Alaska Native Technologies. ONR-321MS has tasked the Department with the management of these Littoral Glider systems and the integration of various sensors onto these platforms for research and operational opportunities with NPS students. ONR-321MS has provided the Department with more advanced acoustic sensors and the desire to utilize multiple acoustic sensors on a single platform. In addition, the NPS Physics Department manages 2 Wave Glider SV2 systems, developed by Liquid Robotics, Inc. Each of these systems utilizes a towed underwater acoustic modem (Teledyne-Benthos) integrated into its tow platform for underwater communications with systems utilizing compatible modems. The software that is utilized by the Littoral Glider systems was developed and is not Commercial off the Shelf (COTS). This software supports the integration of compatible underwater acoustic modems onto the Littoral Glider systems utilizing the previous higher-power science computer. The purpose of this statement of work is to define requirements for additional efforts associated with these systems and their sensors. Commercial type service support shall be utilized in the upgrading of all science computers to a common, low-power system, capable of simultaneously performing data acquisition of the new advanced acoustic sensors as well as supporting the networking capabilities through new advanced acoustic modems.
