Each gate hoist and gearbox assembly is designed to raise a rated load of 69 tons a total distance of 78 feet at the rate of two (2) feet per minute and to lower this load at the rate of four(4) feet per minute. Each gearbox (gear reducer) is driven by an electric motor (15hp, two speeds) with input speed of 842 rpm. Output torque of the gearbox is 126,000 inch lb. The work includes providing and installing of three (3) new sets of gearboxes and refurbishing all twenty four (24) existing gear boxes at the gear manufacturer's facility. The refurbishing work is to be executed subsequently by removing and refurbishing three (3) sets of gearboxes at a time in order to minimize the interruption of powerhouse operation. Refurbishment will include repainting gearbox housing, replacement of all gearbox components including but not limited to bearing, shim, worm and helical gear, output shaft, gearbox oil, oil heater and thermostat. Contractor is to obtain necessary permits to dispose existing gearbox oil. Replacement will also include feeder and breaker replacement. Currently, there are two #4/0 3 phase feeders that feed all 24 gear boxes. They will be replaced in kind with water proofing. The breakers are currently mechanically interlocked and will be replaced with keyed interlocked breakers. The estimated construction cost of this project is between $1,000,000 and $2,500,000. Questions regarding contractual matters should be made to: Patrick Mally 402 995 2070.
