- Description
- THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ONLY THERE IS NO SOLICITATION PACKAGE AVAILABLE. The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), Joint Base MDL, NJ is seeking potential sources for a Radar Beacon Test Set (RBTS). Responses to this Request for Information (RFI) will be evaluated for applicability to Organizational / Intermediate-level ship and shore-based Naval Aviation maintenance. NAVAIR is conducting only market research in connection with this RFI. The RBTS would replace the AN/APM-455. The AN/APM-455 Radar Beacon Test Set, NIIN 01-327-0307 P/N 61205-40001, is a portable, hand-held, battery operated unit used to perform go/no-go testing of aircraft radar beacon systems and beacon transponder components of the All-Weather Carrier Landing Systems (ACLS). The AN/APM-455 supports testing of the APN-202 and APN-154 beacon transponders, R1623 receiver, and associated antennas. The APN-154 beacon transponder is no longer a requirement for the new test set. At the O-level, the test set is used with ancillary Antenna Coupler Interconnect Groups (ACIG) to interface with aircraft X-band and Ka-band antennas. These consist of the ACIG Common Assembly, P/N 61205-40210, and aircraft peculiar coupler sets. For I-level maintenance of the R-1623/APN, the AN/APM-455 is used as a high power Ka-band source with the C-6690B/APM-231 & C-9154/APM Test Harness Controls and filter assembly peculiar support equipment along with General Purpose Electronic Test Equipment (GPETE). Aircraft platforms supported by the new test set are the F/A-18 and EA-18G. The following NAVAIR technical manuals provide more detailed information on the beacon transponder, receiver and the AN/APM-455 test set: • NAVAIR 16-30APM455-1 TECHNICAL MANUAL INTERMEDIATE AND DEPOT MAINTENANCE WITH ILLUSTRATED PARTS BREAKDOWN; Dated: 30 September 1991 w/change 1 - 14 August 1992 • NAVAIR 16-30APN202-1 TECHNICAL MANUAL MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS INTERMEDIATE AND DEPOT BEACON SET, RADAR AN/APN-202 PART NUMBER 01-P19175B001; Dated: 30 April1987 w/change 4 - 1 April 2009 • NAVAIR 16-35R1623-1, R-1623/APN Radar Receiver, MD-817/APN BEACON MODULATOR, AS-2406/APR RADAR ANTENNA, INTERMEDIATE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Dated: 1 May 2010 Copies of the above technical manuals are available at the NATEC web site or can be requested from: Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division Contracts Department, Mr. William Waterhouse, at (732) 323-2243 or william.waterhouse@navy.mil.
