Description
STATEMENT OF WORK 1.Background: Determining expression of biological molecules known as micro ribonucleic acids (microRNA) and expression of certain genes (mRNA molecules) is an important analysis to understand diseases and develop right treatment. Analysis of these molecules is usually performed on biological fluids (such as blood or serum) or cultured cells or tissues isolated from animals or humans. In this regard, we need to perform a large scale evaluation to measure expression levels of microRNA and/or mRNA in cells or tissues of animals that suffer from bone loss. In some additional experiments, the same evaluation measurement will be done on cells or animals that will be treated with therapeutic agents to reduce bone loss. This analysis service contract will, therefore, extract and then measure these molecules in cells or tissues to determine the possible involvement of certain microRNA molecules and/or genes in the observed bone loss and in developing appropriate therapeutic agents. There are two research studies that will utilize this service contract; one entitled "PTH and related molecules for understanding and treating diseases of bone loss" and the study research protocol # is TAW-16-013, and a second entitled "Bone anabolic approach for treatment of bone loss in spinal cord injury" and its protocol # is TAW-15-021. Objectives This section should provide a concise overview of: The main contract goal and objective is to perform this large scale analysis by a contractor facility that has the right equipment and experienced personnel, and that will be able to provide the results in a timely manner. The provided service results will be further graphically and statistically analyzed by the service requesting investigator (at JJP VA MC) to help establish a possible relationship between the measured molecules and their role in bone loss or bone gain.
