- Description
- Potential Part Sketch This Request for Information is for Plasma Spray Coating Process in the support of Rock Island Arsenal - Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC). Army Contracting Command - Rock Island (ACC-RI) is conducting market research to identify industry capabilities for Plasma Spray Coating Processes. The following is a list of topics to focus on in your response: - Can a.01 inch +/-.002 inch coating be successfully applied to a part using the Plasma Spray Coating Processes? - How small of a tolerance zone can the Plasma Spray Process typically hold (i.e. process minimum) (e.g. +/-.002, +/-.001, etc.) - Would grinding of the coating be needed after application of the coating to achieve the a specific tolerance? - Are there typically any concerns with the how the part is prepared or application of either the bond coat or top coat (e.g. potential warping from heat exposure during preparation, application of Bond coat, or application of Top Coat)? - How hard is it to obtain surface profile requirements (i.e. a part with a.080 total tolerance zone over the length of the part and checked in the unrestrained condition)? - Required to meet the MIL-STD-869. - Material specifications: A286 Steel. - Approximate footprint for a part is 7/64 or 17/64 inches thick x 6 inches tall x 3.5 feet long and a flatness requirement (in the restrained condition) of.040 total tolerance zone on the non-coated backside of a part and runs the entire length. There is potential to have additional "profile" flatness requirements of.080 inch total tolerance zone (to be checked in the unrestrained condition). See attached sketch of potential part No contract will be awarded from this announcement. This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or an announcement of a forthcoming solicitation, nor is it a request seeking offerors to be placed on a solicitation mailing list. No solicitation document exists at this time, this is only a Request for Information announcement and is being conducted as a market research tool at this point to gather and technically assess industry capabilities and commercial products. Contractors are requested to provide a capabilities statement, information specific to the questions above, and any other information specific to such processes. Responses to this RFI are voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with submitting/providing information to the Government for assessment. Please response NLT 29 July 2016 by email to ACC-RI, Contract Specialist, Sabrina Lowe, email: sabrina.l.lowe.civ@mail.mil. Telephone inquiries/requests will not be accepted.
