Description
Sources sought description and requirements. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), conducting research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of neurological disorders and stroke. The NINDS mission is to seek fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system and to use that knowledge to reduce the burden of neurological disease. The initial mission of the Stem Cell Characterization Facility (SCCF), established in 2003, was to generate side-by-side comparisons of the 21 human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines approved under President G.W. Bush, and to establish standards for all aspects of the culture process, as well as quality control and monitoring genomic stability of these hESC lines. With the emergence of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, that mission has been expanded to include iPSCs. Currently, the SCCF characterizes diverse pluripotent stem cell lines and their differentiation derivatives using miscellaneous technologies, including genome-wide analysis of gene or transcriptome expression. The SCCF requires a Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) System for quantitative analysis of large scale gene expression and for stem cell research/collaborations.
