- Description
- RFI Posting Document RFI SOW The Stephen Low Information Center serves the research and information needs of Foreign Service Institute students and staff by providing authoritative, relevant and timely resources. The Information Center maintains a dynamic collection specifically geared to support current FSI training programs consisting of electronic resources and online databases, as well as print publications and multimedia resources with access to eBooks through the Ralph Bunche Library collection at Main State. The collection comprises diverse subject-matter areas with emphasis in the fields of international relations, area studies, political science, cross-cultural communications, employment and transition, training design and development, foreign language studies and second language acquisition. The physical location of the Information Center provides FSI students with Wi-Fi and a quiet study space with access to computers for FSI training purposes. Integrated Library Systems (ILS) are essential to the operations of modern libraries and information centers. The Stephen Low Information Center employs an ILS that is over ten years old and is no longer suited to 21st century workflows. A modern ILS will allow Information Center staff to streamline the user experience in terms of information-seeking, search, and discovery. For staff, a modern ILS will allow for integrating operations such as acquisitions, serials, cataloging, and circulation to a public access catalog that incorporates both physical and electronic/online holdings. This resource will support the FSI community, students and staff alike, in their research processes on language acquisition, leadership, area studies, information technology, career services, cultural competencies, and digital pedagogy, among other topics.
