- Description
- Grand Canyon National Park intends on thinning/chipping two adjacent units comprising a total of 200 acres that will provide mulch for another project. The first unit is known as the Orphan Unit and is 158 acres. Fuels on site are predominantly pinyon pine / Utah juniper with isolated pockets of ponderosa pine. The unit is bounded by Hermit Road to the north; Rowe Well Road to the south; and is bisected by a utility access road (dirt two-track). The second portion is known as the Plant Nursery/Water Treatment Unit. This unit is a 42 acre unit comprised of predominantly pinyon pine / Utah juniper with several stringers of ponderosa pine. The Water Treatment Unit is bounded by the Grand Canyon Railroad to the west; a two-track to the north, and an old closed two-track to the south and east. This project will address thinning operations in the Wildland Urban Interface, mulch processing, and transportation and storage. Implementation of the project is anticipated to be initiated in early September and completed in November or December. Slash created by this thinning project will be chipped and stockpiled at a central location by the contractor. It is anticipated that the proposed contract will be a firm fixed price (FFP) contract for an initial year, with four one-year options, awarded as a 100% HUBZone set-aside. The North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 115310, and the size standard is $7.5.
