Description
The Library of Congress intends to issue a request for proposal on or about March 1, 2016 to procure digitization and digital archiving services on behalf of FEDLINK customer, Smithsonian Institution to support the ongoing digital collection needs of the Biodiversity Heritage Library consortium. Requirements: 1. Digitization • Materials to be digitized include general and special collection books and documents of various sizes. Workflow shall accommodate incorporation of customer-created content. • Digital deliverables include master image files, multiple derivative files, and metadata files. • Work will be conducted on site at the Smithsonian Institution using contractor equipment operated by contractor personnel, as well as at other locations in the United States and one in Europe. • Scanning shall be accomplished using non-destructive methods by contractor personnel with experience in digitizing cultural heritage originals. 2. Storage and hosting of files • All digital files shall be hosted on secure contractor servers. 3. Access • All digital files shall be made available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, for unlimited public access and downloading at no charge through a contractor web site on the open Internet. • All digital files shall be uploaded to the http://archive.org web site. FEDLINK services are used by federal libraries and information centers worldwide. Written responses should include prices and technical data sufficient to determine capability.
