- Request for Information/Market Survey Electrically Driven Pulsing Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) Vehicular Cooling System DESCRIPTION OF INTENT: THIS IS A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI), A MARKET SURVEY REQUEST IN SUPPORT OF THE FOLLOWING STUDY. No contract will be awarded from this announcement. This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or an announcement of a forthcoming solicitation, nor is it a request seeking Offerors to be placed on a solicitation mailing list. Response to this survey is voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this market survey and any follow-up information requests. No solicitation document exists at this time, and calls requesting a solicitation will not be answered. STUDY: The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) is conducting a market survey to identify the availability of a 28Vdc electrically driven cooling system (2-8kw capacity) utilizing a pulsing thermal expansion valve (TXV) and R-134a refrigerant. System must be capable of real-time variable input power level limits, to support various vehicle modes. Responses to this RFI should provide the following information: Part I. Name of product(s) that can or potentially could meet the requirement: 2. Is the product(s) currently fielded on any US or foreign military vehicles? 3. If yes, which ones? 4. What types of tests have been conducted on the product? 5. Has any standard performance specification testing been completed on the product (e.g. OEM-specific, SAE, ASTM, etc...)? If standard performance specification testing has been completed, please list the specification(s). 6. At what frequency does the TXV operate? 7. What efficiency increase over traditional TXVs does this product provide? 8. How does the product deal with variable input power levels? 9. What overall coefficient of power can be expected from the product at various conditions? Section B. Marketing Information 10. What are the typical users using your product for? 11. Has the military ever purchased your product? 12. Is the product readily available in the commercial market? If so, where is the product manufactured? 13. If the product is manufactured outside of the United States, can it be shipped to the United States for testing? 14. Does your company research new electrically driven system technology as part of its business model? If so, what types of technology are being investigated?
