- Description
- Title of Project: National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Background: The Northport VA Medical Center's Department of Nursing uses a Nursing Quality Control Indicator and Feedback program to measure itself against similar size facilities and find ways to improve, patient care, patient safety and quality of care that affect the day to day operation in the nursing care environment of the VA Medical Center. Nursing Quality Control Indicator and Feedback (NQCIF) provides a quarterly information stream that includes national comparison data for facilities like ours. The NQCIF data allow staff nurses and nursing leadership the opportunity to review their data and evaluate nursing performance relative to patient outcomes. Your facility can use the information to establish organizational goals for improvement at the unit level. You can mark your progress in improving the care of patients and the work environment of nurses, avoid costly complications, and assist in marketing the quality of your efforts. Patient outcome and nurse staffing data are currently collected on adult and pediatric critical care; step down, medical, surgical, medical/surgical, and psychiatric and rehabilitation. RN turnover data are now available for unit types ED, peri-operative, and obstetrics. Once the data collection period has ended and we have received our facility's information, we will receive our report, including comparison data and analysis, within six weeks. Collaboration has been a key component in the successful growth of and development of the VA Nursing Staff. Participants can be part of the development process by pilot testing a new indicator and in validity and reliability studies. The program offers the ability to trend data over multiple quarters instead of an isolated, and perhaps misleading, snapshot of performance. The program offers VA staff tools to assist with efforts to address the needs of our staff, improving their work environment as well as retention and recruitment. Program participants have stated that this survey alone is worth the fee. Scope of Work: Membership to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Membership access does not involve the purchase of software from the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators. The contractor shall provide all resources necessary to accomplish the deliverables described in this statement of work (SOW), except as may otherwise be specified. NDNQI provides a quarterly information stream that includes national comparison data for facilities like Veterans Health Administration of New York and New Jersey VISN 3. The NDNQI data allows staff nurses and nursing leadership the opportunity to review their data and evaluate nursing performance relative to patient outcomes. Access to comprehensive online tutorial's for each indicator, program liaisons and quarterly conference calls. A quarterly newsletter is also provided to all participating facilities providing program updates. In addition to ongoing training on the indicators and the database, a continuing education credit is available from program training modules including one on pressure ulcer identification, staging, and sourcing. The program requires a secure, user-friendly website for member data entry. No software purchase is necessary. XML data files should be accepted. Type of Contract: Firm-Fixed Price (FFP). Performance Period: Annual membership period is for one base year and four option years
