- Description
- The U.S. Army Contracting Command-New Jersey on behalf of the Headquarters, US Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Command, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ is seeking potential sources for the finish metal machining of pure tungsten and tungsten alloy metal parts with complex geometries. The Government is currently conducting material and process development studies of pure tungsten and tungsten alloys. Unlike typical tungsten heavy alloys that are made through powder metallurgy processes, these materials may consist of 98% or more of tungsten and are more similar to arc-cast tungsten alloys. These materials are extremely hard and brittle in nature, requiring extensive knowledge and experience in refractory metal machining techniques. The component shapes of interest include dimensional feature such as deep grooves, thin cross-section thicknesses and fine tolerance profiles. Also, types of parts needed would be right circular cylinders from roughly ¼" in diameter and 3" to 40" in length. Responses to this survey should show adequate technical and manufacturing capability in tungsten and refractory metal finish machining of the respondent. Respondents should provide the following information to enable the government to assess specific capabilities and facilities: 1. Provide current or previous experience in the finish metal machining of arc-cast tungsten alloys, lanthanated-tungsten or thoriated-tungsten alloys. 2. Provide brief examples and/or dimensional descriptions of the tungsten alloy components produced. 3. Identify the manufacturing equipment currently available to produce the aforementioned components. Additionally, the Government may require small quantities (<100) of machined parts as examples of current capabilities. Interested contractors should submit their responses no later than November 19, 2015. The point of contact for submittals is Attn: US Army Contracting Command, William Tenz, Bldg. 9, Picatinny, NJ 07806-5000, email William.d.tenz.civ@mail.mil. Questions may be directed to the point of contact in writing ONLY. TELEPHONE INQUIRIES WILL NOT BE ACCPETED. Submittals should also include the firms' name and address, point of contact with telephone number and email address, cage code or DUNS, and size of business (Small/Large). Respondents should provide sufficient details to the Government so as to make a reasonable assessment on the capability. This is a market survey to be used for informational and planning purposes ONLY. This notice is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or announcement of a solicitation. Additionally, the Government is not obligated to issue an (RFP) as a result of this notice. Participation in this effort is strictly voluntary with no cost or obligation to be incurred by the Government. All proprietary and competition sensitive information should be clearly marked. Proprietary responses will be protected in accordance with the markings. The Government is not obligated to notify respondents of the results of this survey.
