- Description
- Aspen Aerogels, Inc., Northborough, Massachusetts was awarded a competitive, cost reimbursement contract. Under this new contract, the contractor will design an aerogel insulated thermal battery with reduced weight, improved packaging and/or longer run times. The objective is to increase the reliability and performance of Divert and Attitude Control Systems used for kinetic warheads by advancing the technical and manufacturing readiness of Aspen's aerogel insulation. The next generation aerogel insulation will be optimized, characterized, and manufactured on a large-scale and will be used to fabricate and test batteries. The work will be performed in Northborough, Massachusetts. The performance period is 24 months. The Missile Defense Agency, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
