Description
This pre-solicitation synopsis and notice of intent is not a request for proposals or quotes. The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) intends to issue a Firm-Fixed-Price services contract to a single source under the authority of Far 6.302-1(a)(2), Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services will Satisfy Agency Requirements, on or about 30 Sep 2015 to Commonwealth Technology Inc, 5875 Barclay Drive, Alexandria VA 22315. NRL in Washington DC has onsite a vacuum chamber that is approximately 1.7 meters diameter and 5 meters long used for plasma physics research. The prospective Contractor shall provide a mechanical design of the mounting structure to support a positioning system inside the vacuum chamber, which has two positioners with 5 meters of travel, 4 positioners with 1 meter of travel. The Contractor shall measure the existing chamber mounting brackets. The prospective Contractor shall provide a mechanical design of the integrated positioning system. The positioning system shall have a positional accuracy of at least 1 millimeter on each axis. The positioning system shall operate in temperatures as high as 200 degrees Celsius. The prospective Contractor shall develop the space chamber positioning system with a vacuum compatible mounting structure and stepper motor based positioning system comprising two independent 3-dimensional positioners spanning approximately 5 meters by 1 meter by 1 meter, for use in the plasma confinement chamber. The prospective Contractor shall install the finished product on site at NRL DC and test the system on site prior to acceptance. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this requirement is 333999.
