- Description
- NASA/GSFC has a requirement for Exhibition design and construction services for the design, fabrication, and installation of museum-quality exhibits in the Goddard Space Flight Center Visitor Center. The exhibits include an interactive overview exhibit for the main exhibit floor(420 square feet), a GLOBE exhibit hall(264 square feet), and a potential outdoor exhibit, as well as four boxed exhibits. Contractor Role and Design Deliverables The contractor will work with GSFC to develop a conceptual and schematic design for the exhibit. Deliverables include: A preliminary design and 60% design documents for all three exhibit areas 100% design documents for all three exhibit areas Construction drawings for all exhibit areas; graphic proofs Finishes and materials Proposal Requirements GSFC seeks a qualified exhibit design and fabrication firm who can provide the creativity and expertise to make this project successful. The contractor must demonstrate the experience and capacity required for the job. This experience includes but is not limited to: 10 years of museum exhibition design, fabrication, and installation experiences A portfolio of projects of a similar nature or scope Designing comprehensive visitor experiences for diverse audience groups Strong previous design experience with science Creating immersive exhibit environments Integrating media concepts and presentations in an exhibit environment Creating interactive activities, both hands-on and multimedia Creative lead in a large core project and content team Capacity to handle this project in the desired timeframe Ability to design to a budget Experience fabricating exhibits with materials specified by the GSFC Visitor Center Provide a detailed draft timeline for design, fabrication, and installation Provide a cost estimate for each phase of the proposed project, including a separate budget for the expansion to additional NASA centers. The overview exhibit in the main hall could contain: A large digital display for NASA visualizations and presentations. The display should be easy to maintain, be able to run a loop of existing visualizations that can be updated, and be compatible with presenters' laptops for science talks. New, stand-alone interactive activities and/or displays. Ideas include: A remote sensing exhibit that would allow visitors to see how remote images of Earth provide information about the environment. One possible interactive might be infrared/thermal/visible camera(s)mounted outside with a fixed view of the forest and grass on the Visitor Center grounds. The camera output would be displayed on a monitor(s) indoors as part of an interactive station about remote sensing. A kiosk in which visitors can interact with climate and weather models (GISS EDGCM, GMAO) by entering inputs to see the impact on model runs with information about modeling. http://edgcm.columbia.edu http://gmao.gsfc.nasa.gov/forecasts/ An Earth Observatory Image of the Day and/or latest NASA news kiosk An activity that uses satellite data to show change over time (potentially a non-electronic interactive display) Timeline/overview of GSFC Earth missions, including upcoming missions Satellite view of Maryland or the Chesapeake Bay watershed Geochron clock (existing, in exhibit or in GLOBE Exhibit Hall) Satellite models (existing) Dynamic Planet (existing) The GLOBE Exhibit Hall would include four exhibit areas, incorporating some existing content: An overview of the GLOBE program and the Earth system with information about how to become involved; see https://www.globe.gov Atmosphere: the existing ozone garden exhibit and weather stations display, both of which may be redesigned to fit overall design concept Biosphere green-up and down; land cover classification Soil and hydrosphere- an overview of the soil and water protocols The outdoor exhibit might include: Outdoor GLOBE training areas for soil and atmosphere protocols, including a weather station and a fenced soil pit (using existing equipment) Map or imagery painted on the plaza pavement An outdoor display, such as a smaller version of http ://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Nature_Research_Center.jpg. The land is a composite satellite image to be provided by GSFC, the oceans are polished reflective metal.
