- BARCODE TUBES Minimum Essential Characteristics (MEC) Brand Name or Equal: Thermo Scientific Matrix Storage Tubes and Thermo Scientific Sliding Drawer Racks. 1.Tubes must have permanently attached, laser-etched 2D barcode on the bottom of each tube that allows one to scan and decode tubes at once without removing them from the rack, and allows data to be associated with each tube 2.Tube racks must come in 8x12 format which enables the filling of 8, 12 or 96 tubes at once with pipettes you already own 3.Tubes must come in 8x12 formats that allow 96 tubes to be filled at once with standard liquid handlers. 4.Tube racks must come with a lid that locks down, so it will not come off even when dropped. 5. Tube racks must come with hinged lid latches to maintain sterility by not touching the lab bench or lifted off manually or by robotics and for added security and protection of samples 6.Tubes must have built-in error correction to ensure that barcodes will never be misread 7.Tubes must be exact make and model as tubes being currently used for projects 8.Tubes and racks must enable storage down to cryogenic temperatures. 9.Tubes must be exactly the same as tubes currently being used by our collaborators for project continuity. 10.Tube racks must have standard microplate footprint to be compatible with automated systems or microplate storage racks. 11.Tube racks must come with open bottom and venting around each tube that promotes faster and more consistent freezing and thawing rates, as well as easy tube identification. 12.Tube racks must come with solid, one-piece base that retains its shape even at low temperatures. 13.Tube racks must come with orientation features that quickly identify the front of the rack, and a cutout notch that enables rack orientation in automated systems. 14.Tube racks must have stackable design that allows racks to be stacked to conserve space and not slide off each other. 15.Sliding Drawer Racks must fit in four inner-door, ultra-low temperature freezers. 16.Sliding Drawer Racks must be able to be used in conjunction with Thermo Scientific dense storage vials. 17.Sliding Drawer Racks must measure D: 5.5 in., H: 22 in, W: 11.9 in and sliding drawers. 18. Sliding Drawer Racks must be compatible with pre-existing freezer equipments in the lab. 19. Sliding Drawer Racks must hold 24 Boxes/Rack. 20.Sliding Drawer Racks must have 4 racks per storage rack. 21.Sliding Drawer Racks must fit 16-20 racks per Freezer. 22.Sliding Drawer Racks must fit Positions 96 tubes/box.
