- DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK: Work included in this project will consist of the reinforcement of the high part of the parapet of the balcony on the second floor of the Carabinieri Barracks, Bldg 102. The balcony is on the second floor of a building used as dormitory. The total length of the parapet is about 190 m, of which about 15 m in slope (stairs). The parapet is of plastered reinforced concrete, about 25 cm thick, with on top a cover of Trani marble projecting 1-2 cm on both sides and laid on mortar 2-4 cm thick interposed on the concrete. The total height of the parapet reaches the minimum required dimensions established by the safety standards, that is 100 cm. The mortar has lost consistency and on several areas has chalked. As a consequence the marble has detached, in some cases also taking back the entire layer of mortar. The total length of the parapet is about 190 m, of which about 15 m in slope (stairs). The scope of work consists in restoring the solidness of the parapet through the following operations, to be extended to the entire balcony: a. Removal of all sections of covering not yet detached and cleaning from mortar. b. Complete mechanical removal of all remaining mortar. c. Roughening on 10-15 cm on the vertical surfaces of the parapet close to the areas involved in the work. d. Installation of metal reinforcement, 2 mm diameter and 5x5 mm mesh, fixed with metal connectors and installed on the central line of the inserted material. e. Spreading of adhering grout consisting of synthetic rubber latex type Mapei Planicrete and subsequent leveling with a pre-mixed mortar of the controlled shrinkage type, having special hydraulic binding and aggregates of selected size Mapei Topcem Pronto; these products shall be used in the quantities and with the methods specified by the manufacturer. f. After seasoning, fixing of the marble slats perfectly plane and without interruptions using cement adhesive having high performance, of the quick setting and hydration, type Mapei Elastorapid. g. Reinforced covering of the area previously roughed on the vertical surfaces using glass fiber net resistant to alkalis Mapenet 150 (150 g/sq m) and waterproof cement mortar with fine and smooth texture Mapei Planitop 200. h. Final painting of a 20 cm wide stripe. Site Visit: There is no site visit scheduled at this time.
