Description

Specs for PM fiber splice system • Arc based fiber splicer for polarization maintaining fiber o Must be able to splice Panda, Bowtie, or Ellip-Core Polarization maintaining fiber with better than 40 dB of typical cross talk o Should accept 60 micrometer to 1.2 mm clad diameter o And 60 micrometer to 2 mm coating diameter o Typical splice loss should be 0.1 dB or better o Must be able to perform arc sweeps of at least 10 mm o Must have end view capability for aligning PM and other non-standard fiber o Must have self-calibration of position and power of arc o Must have allow cleave lengths as short as 9 mm o Should have built in monitors to view fiber alignment o Should allow for programmable custom splicing routines. o Should have splice protector heater o Must be useable from standard 110 V AC wall plug • Splicer should be come with and be compatible with a precision cleaver, hot jacket stripper, and ultrasonic cleaner, all of which share the same fiber holder system so that fibers do not need to be directly handled between stripping, cleaving, cleaning and the final splice. • System should come with spare electrodes, cleaning equipment, end view mirror • Also need small splice protectors (25mm length)
