Description
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is seeking all small businesses, to include Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses, HUBZone Small Businesses, SBA 8(a) Disadvantaged Small Businesses or any other small business that have the capability and qualifications to provide approximately 110,000 infective larvae and adult worms of the filarial parasite Brugia Malayi per year. The contractor will be required to furnish all the necessary services, personnel, materials, equipment, and facilities not otherwise provided by the Government. The contractor shall furnish the specific strain and quantities of these parasitic worms according to the required procedures. The primary objective for the use of these parasites is for studying human immunity to Filariasis, a disease which causes elephantiasis in human, and to develop an appropriate vaccine for the infection. In addition to the above, the colonies of the mosquito Aedes Aegypti (Liverpool strain) are required to be maintained for the production of the infective larvae. The parasitic materials derived from the mosquitoes must be collected, counted, stored, maintained and further processed in a manner required for this research study. The larvae and adult worms which are required to be produced from the larvae, have to be stored until need in a freezer (-80 degree centigrade), and injected intraperitoneally into jirds or suspended in media 199 and shipped immediately by air express. The NIAID anticipates awarding a Firm-Fixed Price type contract; the NAICS code is 541990, size standard is $15M. Any potential offeror should respond with a capability statement by January 7, 2015. Capability statements must reference similar work that has been performed by the offeror and the dollar value of that work. Respondents must demonstrate, within the capability statements, skills and abilities that reflect experience with medical services. Potential offerors must indicate business size in their capability statement. This is a market survey, not a request for proposals. All questions must be directed, in writing, to Carolyn Wilder at cwilder@niaid.nih.gov.
