- UT-Battelle, LLC, acting under its Prime Contract No. DE-AC05-00OR22725 with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the management and operation of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), is seeking commercialization partners for its Energy Infrastructure Visualization & Analytics System. Researchers at ORNL have developed an energy infrastructure visualization & analytics software system that enables a real-time understanding of the nation's electric grid and critical energy sectors. The system can be used to monitor the nation's power infrastructure and to support coordination and response during major events such as wide-area power outages, natural disasters, and other catastrophic events. Known internally as EARSS (Energy Awareness and Resiliency Standardized Services-a version of VERDE absent of proprietary data), the system is a method for ingesting and converting real-time data for wide-area energy grids into spatio-temporal formats. The system implements the concept of web streaming services whereby data is processed to apply contingency and outage area analysis and presented over the web in OpenLayers, KML, GML, and other OGC standard formats. The system is contained within a flexible platform that can be used to integrate different elements of visualization tools such as overlays from real-time weather feeds of various sources to situate energy grid status in the context of external events.
