- Description
- This is a notice of intent to increase the ceiling of Contract N66001-11-C-4147 to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), awarded by SSC Pacific on behalf of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency Defense Sciences Office (DARPA/DSO) on 30 September 2011 for a performance period of four (4) years as a result of Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) 11-05 Pharmaceuticals On Demand (PoD). The effort under the contract is to develop an automated desktop system capable of manufacturing small batches of several different pharmaceuticals daily using a shared set of starting materials. The system combines every necessary step of manufacture including synthesis, separation, analysis and formulation into final dosage form. The outcome of work performed under this modified contract will ultimately enable forward-deployed medical personnel to have immediate access to a wide variety of pharmaceuticals by producing needed medicines on demand in a form that is easier to carry in a pocket or medical field pack, a form that is preferable in a field environment. The NAICS code for this procurement is 541712. Due to the nature of Research and Development efforts, DARPA could not have reasonably estimated the results of the research from this program, which has seen breakthroughs that will benefit from continued development to produce a solid dosage form under this current contract. It is expected that the technology will transition for use by medical personnel in the field and will ultimately benefit the warfighter. This action includes a ceiling increase of approximately $860,000. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals or quotes and will be posted for 15 days. A determination by the Government not to compete based upon response to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Interested parties may submit comments in writing to the Contract Specialist, Mrs. Lynn Biedermann, Code 22530, SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific who may be reached by telephone at (619) 553-4479 or via email to lynn.biedermann@navy.mil
