- Description
- The Department of Oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) has a requirement for a contractor with expertise in software engineering related to ocean/climate modeling to assist in multi-agency sponsored Arctic numerical modeling projects, including the Department of Energy Regional and Global Climate Prediction (DOE/RGCM) program, National Science Foundation Arctic System Science (NSF/ARCSS) program and Office of Naval Research Arctic and Global Prediction (ONR/AGP) program. This sponsored research effort includes the development, testing, optimization and improvements of the Regional Arctic System Model (RASM) for use in long-term simulations on state-of-the-art supercomputers to advance understanding and prediction of Arctic and global climate change. The request is for on-going support of NPS RASM efforts, which are based on the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Community Earth System Model (CCSM) framework, including the flux coupler (CPL version 7) for physically consistent communication among model components. The primary requirement is the experience with the RASM code as well as with the most recent version of CESM1 model, especially the parallel Ocean Program (POP) and Community Ice Code (CICE) components and the flux coupler CPL7. Other requirements include Master of Science in Oceanography or other related field of climate research, advanced knowledge of Fortran90, MPI/OpenMP, as well as advanced knowledge of and experience with state-of-the-art vector parallel and commodity cluster computer architectures, such as those available to the project through the DOD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).
