- Description
- Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), operated by Battelle Memorial Institute under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits interest from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market the following technology (hereinafter referred to as "Technology"). License rights may be issued on an exclusive or nonexclusive basis and may include specific fields of use. PNNL may also be available to licensee(s) to assist in further research and development of the Technology under a sponsored research agreement. The patent-pending Technology is an acoustic microtransmitter ("tag") originally designed for detecting and tracking juvenile salmon to evaluate their behavior and survival through the federal Columbia River Power System. The tag's small volume (.11 mL), dry weight (217mg), and streamlined cylindrical shape enable tag implantation by hypodermic needle instead of surgery. The Technology comprises a unique combination of transducer, electronic circuitry, and battery components that provide a tag with a 100-day life at 3-second ping rate. In addition to the Technology enabling the study of fish species that are too small for conventional transmitters, the versatile tag allows different operating parameters (e.g., battery life, ping rate, acoustic range, system size/shape/weight) to be implemented for a host of other potential applications. See also Chen et al, "Micro-battery Development for Juvenile Salmon Acoustic Telemetry System Applications," Scientific Reports 4: Article Number 3790 (2014). doi:10.1038/srep03790. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Any company interested in licensing the Technology must respond with a Letter of Interest (may be submitted by e-mail) no later than 45 days from the publication date of this Notice summarizing the company's business and technical expertise and motivation for pursuing this opportunity. Companies deemed appropriate will be provided with further information on the Technology. Such information may require an executed Nondisclosure Agreement. Respondents wishing to enter into negotiations for a commercial license will be required to submit a business plan for the commercialization of the Technology prior to licensee(s) selection and negotiations. Please send letters of interest to the attention of the POC indentified within this Notice. Reference Battelle IPID 30341 in all letters of interest. Please include the above SOL (Solicitation No.) and Battelle IPID 30341 in all replies and letters of interest.
