Description
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) forensic case management software tool to be used in the collection, handling, protecting, and preserving of digital forensic evidence. This application will assist the FAA in maintaining the chain of custody of all digital forensic evidence collected by the agency. The application will be hosted on a centrally located file server and maintained in-house. The intended result of the application is to create a remotely accessible depository where Digital Media Analysts (DMA) can store digital forensic evidence; distribute forensic workload among geographically dispersed investigators, allow digital evidence to be analyzed remotely using centralized forensic tools, allow read-only access by investigators to access reports and data vital to their investigations, and track workflows and deadlines. The application must have the capability to read from bit-to-bit copies, such as.dd and.E01 formats and password protect these images at both the case and file level. Permissions must be assigned and verified through the use of Active Directory and accommodate a minimum of fifteen (15) total users while at least five (5) users must be able to work concurrently on case files. Provided there is sufficient bandwidth, the DMAs shall be able to upload single instances of digital images as large as 250 GB into the application while creating both an evidence and working copy. Analytical tools such as Forensic Tool Kit (FTK), PRTK Forensics, ENCASE, and X-Ways Forensics must be able to integrate with the management tool to allow DMAs use of commercially available tools for their data analysis. The system shall provide advanced tagging/labeling options for custom and bulk tagging with annotation pop ups and 3 way (include/exclude/neutral) label filters, as well as allow multiple individuals to work collaboratively on one case at different periods of time. Any software solution must run on Windows Server 2008 R2, or better and be HyperVisor/VMWare compatible.
