This announcement is in support of Market Research performed by the United States Army Contracting Command - Rock Island to determine interest in GP Bomb Bodies production, as a manufacturer of GP Bomb Bodies. The end users of the GP Bomb Bodies are the Air Force and Navy. Their preference for GP Bomb Bodies is steel forged. The GP Bomb Bodies may consist of, but is not limited to the following: MK82-1 MK82 500lb. inert, NSN: 1325-00-585-3841; MK82-6 BLU-111, NSN: 1325-01-559-1663; MK83-4 MK83-4 1000lb. inert, NSN: 1325-00-104-7268; MK83-7 BLU-110, NSN: 1325-01-564-9947; MK84-4 MK84-4 2000lb. inert, NSN: 1325-01-089-1335 MK84-10 BLU-117 B/B, NSN: 1325-01-548-1296; Methodology for the GP Mark 80 Bomb Series: a. Description: Production of the MK80 Series Bomb Bodies requires complex operations and sophisticated industrial capabilities. The MK80 Series Bomb Bodies are manufactured from forged high strength steel, 70,000 psi min. yield IAW ASTM E8. The finished 500 lb. bomb body is approximately 60.6 inches long and 11.05 inches in diameter. The finished 1000 lb. bomb body is approximately 72.5 inches long and 14.2 inches in diameter. The finished 2000 lb. bomb body is approximately 97.3 inches long and 18.3 inches in diameter. The MK80 Series Bomb Bodies are designed for soft, fragment sensitive targets such as troops, POL (Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants), and radars. b. Critical Processes/Skills: Manufacture of the GP Bomb Bodies requires specialized equipment and facilities. The general process for making the MK80 Steel Forged Bomb Bodies will vary somewhat for each size and end item usage. Critical equipment and facilities may include: band saws/cutoff machines, forging presses, large induction heaters, water cooling chambers, double end lathes, TIR gages/fixtures, wall thickness gages, flame/plasma arc cutters, MIG/robotic welders, CNC lathes, sub-arc welders, resistance welders, continuous flow heat treat/draw systems, shot blast systems, multiple spindle drills/tappers, CNC vertical mills/machining centers, push/pull/hydro test equipment, phosphate/paint systems, and various specialized material handling equipment. Critical skills needed for production of bomb bodies include forming and heat-treating, setup personnel, inspection and testing technicians, quality control engineers, and machinists. Responses: A respondent to this market survey must have available the skills required to perform all production/testing operations on the specific equipment including forming, welding/resistance welding, heat treating, machining, testing, and assembling all subject bomb bodies. These skills must be available with sufficient experience and proficiency to produce these items in a timely and efficient manner. A respondent must also have available the appropriate maintenance, tooling, and manufacturing engineering skills required to support quality production of these items. A respondent must currently possess a majority of these processes in-house and demonstrate provisions for obtaining the remainder without significant delay. This announcement is for INFORMATION and PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY and should NOT be construed as a commitment by the Government for any purpose. This announcement does not constitute a Request for Proposals and no contract will be awarded from this announcement. Requests for solicitation will not receive a response. It is expected that all the bomb bodies will be purchased via a Technical Data Package. No reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this announcement and any follow-up information requests. No basis for claim against the Government shall arise as a result from a response to this announcement or Government use of any information provided. This announcement does not restrict the Government to an ultimate acquisition strategy. The Government reserves the right to consider acquisition strategies as deemed appropriate.
