- Sources Sought The Forest Service is conducting market research and seeking potential sources that can provide annual support of FPS and a growth and yield model software suite. This support will be specifically structured to young growth and include spatial components to include data of all bordering entities who own adjacent lands. Capabilities Sought Provide Software, Technical Support & Database Maintenance for Forest Projection Planning System Software (FPS) application and dataset associated with the Tongass application of FPS. The potential contractor shall maintain FPS software to provide database architecture, inventory processing, harvest planning and sustainability, including technical support, incorporate ongoing research informed by best available science, and ranking of the attributes. Components of these attributes the contractor will address are listed below: Potential contractor must be capable of providing ongoing software & tech support to implement use of Forest Projection and Planning System (FPS) model that has been adopted for use on the Tongass. The FPS model was contracted for use in the transition to young growth management on the Tongass National Forest and to support work on Forest Plan Amendment. The potential contractor must be capable of providing: 1. Annual technical support of the FPS growth and yield model in support of forest wide analysis needed for the young growth transition, evaluation of timber for the Forest Plan Amendment as well as timber management projects on Tongass Ranger Districts. 2. Provide training/ workshops associated with implementation of the silviculture aspects of FPS to be conducted during the next year to update practicing silviculture foresters. 3. Work with the Forest Vegetation databases and maintain the FRESH model as the vegetation databases on the Forest, Pacific Northwest and FIA are updated. 4. Compile vegetation database GIS updates, recalibration of the model and upload of data. 5. Provide technical support to resolve complications in the FIA, Forest vegetation and other GIS databases.
