Description

The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Eastern Acquisition Division-Kansas City office intends to award, on a sole source basis, under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Rochester Wire and Cable LLC. for one (1) power optic cable for the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER) located at North Kingstown, RI. A Sources Sought notice was posted on the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website on July 16, 2014 and closed on July 23, 2014. No responses were received. Justification for Sole Source The purpose of this acquisition is to purchase a fiber optic power cable for the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research (OER). The NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer supports an underwater remotely operated vehicle system, which is connected to the vessel by a steel-armored electric-optic cable with a nominal outside diameter of 0.681 inches. OER’s requirement is to purchase a spare cable for this underwater vehicle if the current cable suffers a failure or when it is decided to proactively replace the current cable.
