- STATEMENT OF REQUIREMENT This solicitation uses a Brand Name or Equal Description of the product required. This permits prospective contractors to offer products other than those specifically referenced by brand name. The VA St. Louis Health Care System is requesting a confocal microscope, brand name or equal as listed below. The VA St. Louis Health Care System is requesting a confocal microscope based on the following unique characteristics of the model: A true-point scanning confocal which uses an extremely high quality PMT (detector) giving the best imaging quality. The system should be prism based, so the efficiency to the PMT is higher than 95% which is the best in its class. This efficiency allows the use of less laser power for less photo-bleaching and faster recording rates. The system should also pick up signals, previously unseen by our current system, which is a 3 laser system that limits the detection of fluorescence. Also the addition of DIC imaging allows imaging of live cells by all contrast methods which is essential to our work and not currently available in the lab. The confocal should also use a true spectral detector. It should have a variable adjustment on the emission side which can be tuned down to 5 nm. This feature is important for eliminating cross talk and gives better dye separation which is not present on the current confocal or any scope in the department. Other features should include lambda scans, saving spectral images into the dye database, performing basic time-lapse imaging to visualize developing embryos over time in multiple wavelengths with the confocal/spectral features. Moreover, the incubation option and the motorized stage will allow time lapse visualization of live sperm cells in culture as they transit through developmental stages, and the development of early stage embryos over time. These features which are not available on the current manual, direct visualization system are essential to our current grant, Gulf War Exposures and the Molecular Mechanisms of Paternal Reproductive Risk. The following listing of items is required for the purchase: 1.Confocal unit scan head which contains spectral detector with high sensitive selected PMT and photocon booster technology. 2.A panelbox with programmable controls to adjust the confocal. Digital displays show current values. Adjustment wheel sensitivity can be selected via GUI in LAS AF. 3.A second monitor: 19" TFT monitor with SXGA 1280x1024 resolution. 4.Optical Outfit Prism turret, 4 pos., mot. inserting objective prisms; condenser head 0.53/S 23 condenser head 0.53/S 23 Smart; condenser w/o head; motorized condenser base for condensers S1 up to S28 for free working distances 1 # 28mm which features: field of view 25mm. The Condenser base featuring: 7position disk to accommodate light rings, IC prisms or modulation slits. The disk can be equipped, individually. All transmitted light contrasting methods are possible (BF,PH, DF, Pol, DIC, IMC), which include motorized aperture diaphragm, fixed mount for interchangeable condenser heads, possibility to mount polarizer, possibility to mount filter holder (diameter 32mm), including height adjustment and field diaphragm adjustment, fixation of for Koehler illumination, adjustment tools and toolbox, suitable for all magnifications 1,25 up to 100x. Obj. prism turret DIC 4 pos., motorized 4 position motorized and coded DIC objective prism turret to hold 4 Wollaston prisms. The fine adjustment (Bias) is automatically set to each prism. Manual and electronic adjustment or overwrite should be possible. Polarizer, motorized holder including polarizer with lambda plate. Wireless retrofit to motorized condenser bases. Filter system analyzer. 5.Prism Set Basic containing objective and condenser prisms suitable for basic objective set. 6.Objective set: designed to fit various microscope configurations. 7.Basic Motorized 3Plate Stage Kit set for microscope which contains: Motorized 3Plate Stage, travel range: 127x83 mm positioning; reproducibility: +/20?m; supply unit and control unit for stepper motor stages. 8.Adjustable stage insert for Super Z, universal insert with object holder for slides and Petri dishes from 35 to 58mm diameter. 9.Chamlide system which includes incubator cover and main body, 2 perfusion ports, touch screen 4 channel temperature and gas flow rate controller, lens warmer, humidifier, cable, tubing, adapters for chambered slides, chambered cover glass, 35mm dish and 2hole bottom plate, Chamlides for 18mm and 25mm round cover glass, special glass covers, gas control speed valve and software. 10.PT 100 sensor to connect with controller 11.Microscope table with passive vibration dampening system for inverted stands consisting of: granite top, black and white with fittings for microscope stand; side frame made of multiplex wood (high quality composite material made of veneer wood) with extra low torsion, anthracite finish; top frame made of multiplex wood. 12.Metal computer table 80x80 cm (31.5 x 31.5 inches) 13.Filter cube A, longpass 14.Installation of equipment to assure warranty 15.Advanced imaging training to ensure proper use and assure warranty.
