Description
The negotiated contract objectives are: To assess effects of proprietary compounds in standardized models of alcohol dependence-induced alcohol intake using both male and female mice as subjects. To implement testing of proprietary compounds in a battery of 'control' tests designed to aid in evaluating the selectivity and specificity of drug effects on alcohol intake in both male and female mice as subjects. This includes assessing effects of proprietary compounds on: (a) consumption of other fluids (sucrose); (b) general locomotor activity and interaction with low-dose stimulant and high-dose sedative effects of alcohol; (c) alcohol-induced hypnotic (soporific) effects of alcohol; and (d) alcohol pharmacokinetics, as measured by effects on blood alcohol elimination rates. To collect, analyze, and display data from these tests and report them to designated NIAAA personnel. The data generated by this contract will be used in the identification of compounds for further development.
