- Description
- THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) intends to contract using other than full and open competition for the following: The contractor shall provide production equipment (hardware/software), material, labor, training, and warranty materials needed to upgrade the Komori Offset Press with their inspection system on the existing BEP offset press. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) presently uses the Komori 5 Color Commercial Offset Press in the Miscellaneous Printing section. This upgrade will expand the capabilities of the press to include Inspection Capability. A part of the Re-assess & Evaluate the Current; Optimize the New (RECON) project, proposes the elimination of off-line examination and sorting of good and unacceptable sheets. This proposal minimizes additional handling of the product thus reducing required labor and machinery needed for offline inspection. An upgrade of the Komori Offset Press to include inspection capabilities has been proposed to test the capabilities of the Komori inspection system for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only the following designated source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. Accordingly, the BEP intends to award a contract to Komori America Corporation, 5520 Meadowbrook Industrial Ct. Rolling Meadows, IL 60008. Komori owns the proprietary system that interfaces with the existing BEP offset press to meet the BEP's requirements. The inspection system can be retrofitted onto the existing offset press to inspect both the face and back of the sheets. This notice of intent is not a request for offers. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice, if any, is solely within the discretion of the Government. Interested parties who believe they possess the capability to satisfy this requirement should submit documentation that clearly demonstrates their capability. Responses to this notice shall be received no later than 4:00pm EST on Thursday July 10, 2014. All responses must be in writing and are to be sent via email to the point of contact specified in this notice. Any cost associated with the preparation and submission of data or information or any other costs incurred in responding to this notice is the sole responsibility of the respondent and will not be reimbursed by the Government.
