- Description
- A.Demolition a.Remove existing precast concrete wheel stops, including those within the Rice King/Sbarrro parking lot. (Reinstall per plan) b.Demo existing low concrete curb only on the westerly diagonal side of the landscaped triangular island at the intersection of Surface Navy Blvd and Woden St, leaving the other curbs intact in this area. c.Remove 2 large anchors and relocate to PWD Shops Storage Yard (Cummings & Mole Rd). Remove existing precast concrete planters west of B548 and store in an approved laydown area during construction, then reinstall near existing locations. d.Remove existing stop signs e.Demo existing landscape plant material, irrigation system and xeriscape gravel in of the landscaped triangular island at the intersection of Surface Navy Blvd and Woden St. f.Grind highly eroded and cracked areas at least 1 to 2 deep, depending on extent of damage. There are two large areas to the west and south of B3421, two large areas at the southerly driveway entrance off Woden Street and the areas on all sides of B3484. (See attached drawings). All cracks greater than 1/8 wide must be ground down 1 below surrounding pavement surface with a 24 wide grinder. The total cracked areas indicated on with green paint is approximately 2500 LF. (please note approximately 300 LF of cracks were not painted, but will need to be repaired, included in the total above. Not including the crack/trench repair areas, the 5 areas described above are approximately 27,000 SF. These areas are indicated with blue paint on the pavement. Crack repair areas have been designated onsite with green paint and milled/planed areas are designated in blue paint onsite, and shall be inspected during site visit. B.Construction a.Power sweep, then cap eroded and cracked areas, described in paragraph 1.A.f above, with a tack coat and 1 to 2 of hot mix AC, rolling flush with surrounding surfaces. In addition, cap the triangular drive area over the railroad tracks with a minimum of 1 AC cap, providing geotextile paving fabric, nonwoven, needle-punched polypropylene over the tracks a minimum of 24 each side. (approximately 1500 SF). Then install new Rubberized Polymer Modified Emulsion (RPME), Type I: 1/8 minus rubberized Slurry seal with specified product only, over entire parking area. (SEE SECTION 4) b.Excavate the landscaped triangular island at the intersection of Surface Navy Blvd and Woden St, area to 12 below surrounding finish paving elevation and compact existing subgrade to 95%. c.Install 8 Class II base compacted to 95% in previously landscaped triangular area. Install 4 AC over this area, 2 binder course and 2 wearing course. d.Install average depth of 2 AC cap over tack coat at diagonal roadway area to bring existing paving flush with new paving described in item #1.B.c above. e.Install new 6 x18 curb at easterly boundary of new parking at the southerly end and xeriscape per plan. Note: top of new curb to match top of existing curb along Surface Navy Blvd and Woten St. Use horizontal #4 bar 3 from top & bottom of curb. Install new 6 x4 hi top set concrete curb for new xeriscaped area at the westerly edge of Surface Navy Blvd between the new paved area and B3421. Use one continuous #4 bar at center and pinned to paving with minimum 6 long rebar imbedded 3 into paving and stubbed up 3 into new 6 x4 curb. Tie horizontal rebar to new pins.. For all xeriscape retaining curbs, provide minimum 1 wide weeps to existing or new paved finish surface. As an alternate, use 2x3 PVC gutter section laid flat in lieu of 1 wide weeps. f.Install new xeriscape in new planter areas along south westerly Surface Navy Blvd using only NAVFAC approved turf per specs over weed abatement. g.Install all striping for parking spaces per the site plan. No colors except white will be required for markings except for the ADA blue paint at B3421 accessible parking spaces (2-one Van) and crosshatched accessible path of travel to the entrance on the north side. h.Re-install existing stop signs at new intersection when new work is complete. C.The construction duration shall not exceed 60 days. D.The project will be executed in four phases, per site plan. The sections must be complete and striped, ready for parking, prior to starting the subsequent phases. Normal work hours prevail. E.The contractor will not be required to provide separate drawings or calculations, provided the plans supplied by NAVFAC are followed as closely as possible.
