The Ventralight ST with the Echo Positioning system has a resorbable layer that helps prevent adhesions to the mesh, and the positioning system facilitates optimal placement (and decreases operative time). The Sorbafix tacking device, it is needed to fix the mesh to the inside of the abdominal wall. This limits the need for multiple incisions through the abdominal wall (which decreases the risk of introducing infection). The tacks themselves are resorbable, thus limiting the risk of adhesions to the tacks. The current tacking device we have uses permanent metal springs to fix the mesh. These are not desirable, as there is an increased risk of adhesions and the possibility that if they fall out of the position they could theoretically perforate the bowel or lead to other problems.
