Title of Project: Purchase of Rigid Containers and Inner Baskets for Steam Sterilization. 2. Scope of Work: Surgical instruments grouped as 'sets' are placed in rigid stainless steel containers for sterilization. The containers are subjected to frequent washing (exposure to enzymatic detergents), and extreme temperatures both during washing and sterilization (>270F degrees). Excessive handling and use throughout the years also contributes to the breakdown of the containers. 3. Background: A tray comprises of large group of instruments that make up a 'set' that needs to be placed in a rigid container for sterilization. Sets are of various sizes and so are the containers. Most containers have been in use over nine (9) years. Containers damaged by normal wear and tear and during handling need to be replaced. FY 13 purchases of containers were for the minimal sets of instruments that were needed for emergency surgical start-up. More sets have since been purchased without the necessary containers. Without containers the sets have to be wrapped. Wrapped sets present ongoing problems for the end-users and SPS because of the high incidences of holes in the wraps. Surgeries are often delayed and sometimes cancelled when this occurs. Non-sterile set (sets with holes in the wrap) necessitates reprocessing (repeat of the entire reprocessing process) which is costly, time consuming and sometimes lessens the life of RMEs. 4. Performance Period: The contractor shall complete the work required under this SOW in 30 calendar days or less from date of award, unless otherwise directed by the Contracting Officer (CO). If the contractor proposes an earlier completion date, and the Government accepts the contractor's proposal, the contractor's proposed completion date shall prevail. 5.
