- Description
- The Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division (NAWCWD) intends to procure, on other than full and open competition basis in accordance with FAR 6.302-1, a Firm Fixed Price (FFP) single award contract to Resodyn Acoustic Mixers, Inc, Butte, MT 59701-9314. The contractor shall provide and deliver a production scale resonant mixer with a nominal 5 gallon capacity that must operate continuously on mechanical resonance at a variable frequency between 58 and 62 Htz without input from an operator. This is required because operating on constantly on mechanical resonance allows the mixer to reach the high acceleration rates at low frequency that are required to process the novel materials being developed at NAWCWD. The mixer must mix without impeller blades by using only vibration waves and provide mixing accelerations from 1 to 100 times the force of gravity (gs) because 100 gs of acceleration is often required to mix into a homogenous state, the novel materials being developed at NAWCWD and these new materials easily exceed the viscosity limits of current state of the art bladed mixers. The mixer must be equipped to operate with real time temperature control and vacuum control and be able to mix composite materials with viscosities greater than 1000000 centipois (cP) because vacuum control is critical to preparing samples without entrapped air. Temperature control is a critical safety requirement for mixing energetic materials and the new materials currently being produced at NAWCWD routinely exceed a viscosity of 1000000 cP. Any firms believing that they can provide the production scale (nominal 5 gallon capacity) resonant mixer, as described above, may submit a written response to the Contracting Office, to be received no later than 15 days after the date of publication of this notice. The written response must clearly show the firm's ability to be responsive without compromising the quality, accuracy, or reliability of the production scale (nominal 5 gallon capacity) resonant mixer and without causing programmatic hardship. All responses must be submitted in writing to NAWCWD, Code 254100D, Attn: Ashley C Bruce, 429 E. Bowen Road, Stop 4015, China Lake, CA 93555-6108 or by email to Ashley.C.Bruce@Navy.Mil
