- Project Description: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers San Francisco District is seeking a contractor with experience in the culture of anadromous fishes, specifically the threatened Central California Coast Evolutionarily Significant Unit of steelhead Oncorhynchus mykiss. The contractor will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a twenty raceway cold water fish hatchery producing up to 500,000 steelhead smolts annually. The hatchery is located below Warm Springs Dam in Sonoma County, California, about 12 miles northwest of the City of Healdsburg. The contractor would also operate the Coyote Valley Fish Facility below Coyote Valley Dam in Mendocino County, about four miles northeast of the City of Ukiah. This is a ten raceway facility operated seasonally to take and fertilize up to 200,000 steelhead eggs Fertilized eggs are transported to the Lake Sonoma facility for incubation and rearing. Pre-smolt fish are returned to the facility to imprint prior to their release. The contractor must have, or obtain by, October 1, 2013, an Endangered Species Act Section 4d approval from the National Marine Fisheries Service to be able to legally handle wild steelhead entering the facilities.
