- Description
- The Library of Congress requires contractor support to receive, process, and recycle or dispose of green containers. For the purposes of this presolicitation the term "green containers" refers to low density polyethelene plastic mailing containers, the enclosed cassettes, and attached labels and mailing cards. The contactor shall recycle or dispose of green containers. There are two sizes of green containers, the smaller containing up to four cassette tapes and the larger containing up to six cassette tapes. When closed, the four-cassette container measures approximately 6" x 4 ¾" x 1 ½" and the six cassette container measures 6" x 4 ¾" x 1 ½". The volume of low density polyethylene contained in the small green container is 150cc. (See picture in J.1 Attachments). Green containers will be shipped from libraries and repositories throughout the country via the United States Postal Service (USPS). The contractor is responsible for arranging pick-ups and/or deliveries with their nearest USPS sorting center. Green containers may arrive in USPS mailbags, large mail bins, or loose. USPS property shall be returned directly to them in a timely manner according to USPS directives. Green containers will be sent to the contractor's facility for processing throughout the year but the flow may be uneven. The contractor shall provide materials and labor required to receive, store, and recycle or dispose of green containers, including but not limited to the facilities, equipment, supervision, supplies, labor, and overhead support. The audio material contained on the enclosed audio cassettes was produced with special copyright permissions for use only by blind and physically handicapped residents of the United States. The cassettes and the mailing containers are clearly marked as U.S. government property. The Contractor shall protect this government property from theft or misuse. The cassettes may be erased and re-used, however they may not be sold or distributed with the original material on them. The operations shall include, but not be limited, to the following: 1. Receive all incoming green containers and store until recycling or disposal can be accomplished. 2. Recycle or dispose of plastic and other materials. The Contractor shall specify the disposal facility or facilities to be used during the term of the contract. The Contractor shall receive approval from the COR, in advance, of any changes in the disposal facility or facilities location.
