Description
The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. ("AURA"), on behalf of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) Project Office, announces the opportunity for qualified vendors to propose on the fabrication of the LSST Dome. This opportunity will require the final design and fabrication of a complex structure capable of providing environmental protection and an observing aperture to allow observation of the night sky, while shielding the telescope from stray light and excessive wind. The Dome includes the structural and sealing elements, the vents for natural flow of air through the telescope enclosure, the wind/light screen system, and the drives and control system to provide the necessary motion. This announcement serves as early notification to identify and pre-qualify potential vendors and to provide preliminary design information prior to the official release of the request for proposals scheduled for release in mid-2014. Vendors interested in learning more about this opportunity and procurement shall send a Letter of Interest including a brief statement of requisite fabrication and/or engineering design experience to Deborah Gronet, Contracts Officer via email at dgronet@aura-astronomy.org, subject line "LSST Dome Fabrication." Letters of Interest are due no later than May 20, 2014. Potential vendors will be provided credentials to access preliminary procurement information as well as design and requirements information to support the procurement process. Questions can be directed to Deborah Gronet via email or via telephone at 520.318.8366.
